For my convenience, and maybe yours (if you take lit):Semester 1 break holiday assignment for English Literature (Pure and Elective)Your non-negotiable deadline is the first Friday, June 29 2007 when school reopens. You must turn it in no later than 12 noon on this Friday.
Remember that the week we return is an even week and is supposed to be W4 of T3.I know it’s confusing, but you’ll get round it, I’m sure.
ALL YOUR WORK MUST BE HANDWRITTEN. PLEASE REMEMBER TO LEAVE A RIGHT MARGIN. YOU MAY USE BLANK, WHITE, A4 SIZE PAPER TO COMPLETE THE TABLE.
Please read the following short stories in Island Voices.
‘The Martyrdom Of Helena Rodrigues’ – by Stella Kon
‘Evening Under Frangipani’ – Philip Jayeratnam
‘A Dream of China’ – by Ovidia Yu
1) A quiz on these stories will be held when the semester reopens.
2) Answer this essay question in full:
a. In what ways does the writer make you feel sympathy for Prakash in ‘Evening Under Frangipani’? How far do you think it is effective?
3) Draw a table of similarities and differences, always giving evidence, between the main female character in both ‘The Matyrdorm of Helena Rodrigues’ and ‘Evening Under Frangipani’. Do the same for the male characters. When you are done, determine what message the author is trying to convey to the reader.
It took me three years of doing lit before it finally dawned on me that I have the analytical power of a peanut.

I'm going to have this staring at my face every time I read my blog so my guilty conscience will provoke me to get my lazy ass off the oh-too-comfortable computer chair and start working.
For the last three years and counting, I've reserved my holiday homework for the last three days of mad scrambling. This year, it's going to be different!
I feel empowered! I'm going to start today!
Ok, maybe tomorrow. Saturday is a rest day. Everybody knows that. And Sunday is a church day so no work. And Mondays, well I never do any work on Mondays. Mondays are lazy days.
TUESDAY I WILL START.
Anddd, a quote from Supernatural a long time ago-
Your alarm's as useful as boobs on a man, and that's why we're here to fix it!
